Our Mother and Daughter team have been working side by side for the last 10 years, with our Principal, Gillian, looking after all our Senior Students, and Vice Principal, Carolyn, taking care of our Juniors. We also have several assistant teachers who help tomake sure that no student is ever left struggling on their own. We are very proud of all our teaching staff, and after reading a little about them, hope you will be too.
My dancing career started at the tender age of 3, when my sister’s ballet teacher suggested to my Mum that she bought me some ballet shoes.
I trained in Ballet, Theatre Craft, Modern Jazz and Tap, passing all my grade exams along the way.Aged 15, I was approached by a family friend to take on the role of choreographer for the local church pantomime.
After some persuasion I agreed and from this the Priestley Theatre Dance School was born! All of my teacher training was done under the meticulous supervision of Miss Jean Pearce,a truly inspirational lady who shaped me into the teacher I am today.
During the late 1960’s there was a television programme called Junior Showtime, for which I was one of the resident dancers. This was both a memorable and very exciting time of my life, where I learnt the rigors of rehearsals, filming, and getting it right first time! In the 70’s I was honoured to be chosen to appear with the Royal Ballet in their performances of Giselle & Coppelia.
